Armenia, 2004
Three sisters enjoy their Christmas dinner at a makeshift table set apart from the main table at which traditionally only men sit. During the holiday season, which starts well over a week before and continues after Christmas (January 6 in the Armenian religious calendar), dinner tables in many households are perpetually crowded with food. Popular foods for this time of year include a variety of lamb and pork dishes such as shish kebab, dolma, cured meats such as basturma and sudjukh, sun dried and kalamata olives, kofta, nuts, yogurt, fresh fruit, and the Armenian breads choerag and lavash.
