Garni Gorge
Garni Gorge

The distant gorge looming below was seen from the grounds surrounding a 1st century pagan temple. The vast and treacherous terrain of the Caucus mountain ranges saved many Armenians from the massacres at the end of the 19th and early 20th centuries. Armenians could seek shelter here, and the rugged terrain allowed them to hold their ground as battles were fought.
